GlossaryArch window: A window that is moon shaped or half circle. They are usually above a existing window or door. Attached arch: a window has a ½ circle or / moon shaped window attached to the existing square window. It shares the same window frame. Bottom rail: The bottom rail is the piece of material that is attached to your wood , or faux wood blind that holds the ladders. All products have different rails , depending on the type of blind or shade will determine what type coordinating rail you will have. Bottom rail Button: On a wood or faux wood blind underneath the bottom rail will be a small piece of plastic that is used to secure the ladders to the bottom rail. Box Brackets: Brackets that are needed to install your wood or faux wood blind and mini blinds. The head rails are placed into these brackets for installation. Braided ladder: Ladders are used in wood ,faux wood, and mini blinds. A vertical cord that is connected at the top of the head rail and on the bottom rail to secure the slats in place. Braided ladders are color coordinated and are made of a polyester material. Center Support Bracket: on a larger blind these are used to help support the blind or shade , it also helps to prevent sagging if a blind is heavy. Center tilt: for smaller blinds under certain size the blind or shade can only be tilted not raised. Clearance: The recessed amount of your window from the back to the front. Cloth Tape: cloth tape comes in a variety of different colors. It is used for decoration. And it helps from keeping the light that filters from the routed holes. The tape is applied to the front and back of the blind. Clutch System: allows you to control the exact position of the shade. A smooth and easy operation. Comes with a continues cord. Control length: The length of the controls on your blind or shade. Typically it is half to 2/3 the length of the blind or shade. Cord cleats: Are attached to the wall to wrap loose cords from dangling and preventing small children or pets to reach the controls. Cord Lock: a mechanisms that is used to lock the blind or shade in to a desired position. Continues cord: A cord that is looped from the head rail and about ½ the length of the blind or shade It allows you to raise and lower your blind or shade without have cords hanging. Cord tilt: This feature is used to tilt you blinds from open to closed position instead of a traditional wand. A cord tilt is much easier to tilt your blinds especially if your blind is heavy. Cut out: usually used in kitchens or bathrooms. If there is tile or any other material that would prevent the blind or shade to be lowered. Special cut are made to make it a custom fit. Day & night shades: Two different materials on 1 cell shade giving 2 looks. Typically a blackout fabric with a light filtering fabric. Embossed: The slat has a wood like texture or look to it. End Cap: a cap the is placed on the sides of the bottom rail and are color coordinated. These are used to conceal any exposed areas on the bottom rail. Generally used on honeycomb shades and some roller shades. End lock: attached on the end of a head rail a metal piece is used to help secure and support the blind. Used on wood and faux wood blind. Head rail: a heavy duty metal where all the internal parts of the blind or shade are located. Hidden valance clips: Metal clips that are placed behind the valance and hang from the edge of the head rail. There are un noticeable. Hold down brackets: Used on doors to secure the blind or shade to the door, to prevent the blind from swaying back and forth. They are easily removed to raise your blind or shade. Inside mount: Inside the window frame. Metal tape roll: inside a metal head rail , a part that is used to connect ladders to the clips. It is standard to use these all blinds. Lift Cord: A cord that is used to raise or lower your blinds or shades to a desired position. Loop ladder: A special ladder that is used on route less blinds. Magic Wand: The optional magic wand is an integrated cord/tube pull through system. The raise controls run inside the wand. Providing a clean sleek look. Multiple blinds or shades on 1 head rail: commonly referred to 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 head rail. Two or more blinds or shades on 1 common head rail. Typically used for larger windows when the size exceeds the maximum width for a single treatment. Each blind will have its own controls for each blind. Outside mount: used on the outside of the window frame . It is used for windows that are not square or to conceal an imperfection. Or if you are wanting to eliminate the light from filtering from the sides of the shades. There are no deductions taken from this measurement. Return: The ends of a valance the distance from the wall the head rail . Usually a inside mount is ½ inch and on outside mount is 3 ¾ unless there is trim then spacers are needed. Return L bracket: used to attach the return to the front of the valance. This ensures a secure fit. They can come in metal or plastic depending on the type of blind that is ordered. Reverse Roll: Fabric is in front of the fabric roll concealing it. The fabric is further away from the window There is less light control on a reverse roll. Route hole: A hole in the middle each slat that allows the ladders to run through the slat. Routless: There are no routed holes in the slats. There are small u notches on each slat where there is a ladder to secure the slat. When the blinds are closed you have complete privacy . An additional bonus is the slats are removable for easy cleaning. Slat: The horizontal pieces of wood or composite for a wood or faux wood blind. Spacer: a spacer is used to extend the blind out to the desired position to allow clearance from any material or obstruction . Split Controls: Controls on the blinds are raise right / tilt left Stacking: The amount of room the blind or shade will sit from the head rail. Stop ball: A plastic piece that connects the lift cords from the head rail to prevent cords from dangling. These plastic pieces also break away for child safety. Tape spacers: A clear plastic piece that is attached on the top slat of some faux wood blinds to help the top slat to tilt with the rest of the blind. Tassel: attaches to the lift cords and tilt controls on wood and faux wood blinds. All tassels are color coordinated and come in pvc for all faux wood blinds. Wood tassels are used for wood blinds. Plastic is used for honeycomb shades. Telescope pole: A 10 foot extension rod is used for honeycomb shades that are cord free. This allows you to raise your shades beyond your reach. Great solution for small children and pets. Top down / bottom up: a honey comb shade can be raised from the bottom up . Or it can be lowered from the top down. You can control the position of the shade at any point. Top down only: Honeycomb shades will only be lowered from the top of the head rail . It can not be raised from the bottom. Wand tilter: attached to the head rail a wand tilts your blinds to the desired position instead of using a cord tilt. Wand tilter is not recommended for heavier blinds. Valance clips: a plastic piece that is used to connect a valance to the head rail. |
